    Fundus autofluorescence is the emission of light from Lipofuscin within the RPE cells. When stimulated with a specific wavelength of light, lipofuscin becomes fluorescent and this fluorescence can be mapped across the retina. Lipofuscin is a metabolic by-product generated in the photoreceptor cells and it’s levels are managed within the RPE.
